Ater Kik Alicha (Amharic *: ክክ አልጫ) is a traditional Ethiopian “sauce” (Wot), which is eaten in Ethiopia together with Injera, the Ethiopian flatbread, and green peppers. But even without Injera Ater Kik Alischa is a pleasure and can be eaten, for example, with rice. In any case, Ater Kik Alischa is an asset to the vegan cuisine.

* Amharic is the official language in Ethiopia.

Preparation

Wash the peas with water and put them in saucepan. Add water so the peas are covered in water and bring it to boil.

After the peas have cooked for about 30 minutes, switch off the cooking plate and allow the peas to gething softer (without cooking).

In a second pot, heat the coconut oil over medium heat and fry the onions in it. Add all this to the cooked peas.

Add some more water, garlic, ginger and turmeric and let cook for another 10 to 20 minutes until the peas are tender. Taste the whole with salt. Finished! Good Appetite!
